EasyOffice aims to be a Microsoft Office replacement, and it is a Microsoft Office replacement. The only problem is that it’s a Microsoft Office 2003 replacement. While EasyOffice does boast a variety of useful tools and an exhaustive list of business-oriented software, it does not feature support for Microsoft Office 2007 file types. Budget users will still want to consider EasyOffice as its fair price tag polishes an otherwise standard feature set.
EasyWord, EasyOffice’s word processor, is an effective clone of Microsoft Word 2003. EasyWord’s most noteworthy feature is the ability to save documents as PDF files. We appreciate the inclusion of standard features like spell check, grammar check and dictionaries in multiple languages. On the whole, EasyWord is a functional, if unremarkable word processor.
With EasyWord handling your document needs, EasySpreadSheet takes up Excel duty and EasyPresentation fills in for PowerPoint. Both programs mimic their Microsoft Office counterparts down to toolbars and menu options. Given our comfort with Microsoft Office, we had no difficulty adjusting to EasyOffice.
In addition to everyday productivity tools, EasyOffice features a wealth of advanced utilities up to the challenge of the small business or office network. EasyOffice includes an email client, antivirus software, a mail server, database manager and accounting manager. The quality and efficacy of EasyOffice’s business-oriented software isn’t as high quality as what you’ll find onboard Microsoft Word Professional, but they perform adequately.
While EasyOffice provides a comprehensive productivity suite, it doesn’t manage to offer the most thorough file support. EasyWord will generate and open DOC and RTF files, but it cannot cope with Microsoft Office 2007’s new DOCX format. The same goes for spreadsheets and presentation files—EasyOffice supports XLS and PPS files, but does not open, edit or save as XLSX or PPSX. OpenOffice’s formats aren’t compatible with EasyOffice.
EasyOffice has some basic FAQs and support documentation available on their website. Live support however, is unreliable. We didn’t receive helpful responses to our emails in a timely fashion. EasyOffice does have help files onboard its programs for basic support.
EasyOffice isn’t a viable replacement for Microsoft Windows 2007. It is however, a passable home office suite for users with light compatibility needs. We appreciate the inclusion of the image editors, compression software and scientific calculator, but ultimately think the huge quantity of extra software is excessive for home users. EasyOffice is perfectly well suited for everyday productivity tasks like writing a resume or running a budget through a spreadsheet. But, due to compatibility issues and lackluster support, EasyOffice can’t hold a candle to some of our higher ranking software picks. Be sure to read our reviews of Microsoft Office Student and Home 2007, Corel Home Office and StarOffice to get an in-depth idea of how they compare to EasyOffice.
